DEEPLY ROOTED
Company: Cantilena
On Sunday, December 8th, we warmly invite you to join us for "Deeply Rooted." Together, we'll reflect on our past performances while also looking ahead to Cantilena’s dynamic and inventive programs for women’s voices, unique to the Boston area.
Cantilena will be featuring local composer Kenneth Seitz by performing a selection of works written for us during his 31 year tenure as Music Director with the ensemble. The program includes his “Velvet Shoes,” “Silent Night,” “Dona Nobis Pacem,” and other favorites.
The concert begins with seasonal favorites from Benjamin Britten’s "Ceremony of Carols," Margaret Bonds’ “Ballad of the Brown King,” and Daniel Pinkham’s “Manger Scenes.” Rounding out the program are some Cantilena favorites including “Longest Shadow of the Year” by Ellen Gilson Voth, “Let Evening Come” by Brian Holmes, “ Lake Isle of Innisfree” by Eleanor Daley, and “The Peace of Wild Things” by Joan Szymko.
Song texts include the poetry of Wendell Berry, Emily Dickinson, Norma Farber, Langston Hughes, Jane Kenyon, Sylvia Ross, Elinor Wylie, W.B. Yeats, and others.
A reception to acknowledge Kenneth Seitz contributions to choral music follows the concert.
