A Feminine Phenomenon
Company: West End Lyric
(It's a Femininomenon!)
The ladies of West End Lyric are back! Join us for an afternoon of all-female-written Broadway favorites on October 20th, 3 PM at the Park Avenue Congregational Church in Arlington, MA.
This concert will feature the talents of singers Jessica Bloch-Moisand, Akela Franklin, Becca Allen, Andrew Secker, and pianist Tristan Leung!
Programmed by Akela Franklin, this musical theater concert includes repertoire from the last 100 years of the Broadway musicals, with music composed by women and/or written by women. Some songs are from as far back as 1930, such as Kay Swift's "Fine & Dandy", the first musical ever composed in its entirety by a woman.
You can also look forward to selections from "literary classics" like Little Women, A Tale of Two Cities, and the Secret Garden. Additionally, our performers will take you to the swamp with numbers from Once Upon a Mattress and Shrek the Musical, and lastly you'll also be serenaded with more modern favorites from shows like Anastasia and Waitress.
Women creators we will be honoring include:
Lynn Ahrens, lyricist
Sara Bareilles, singer/songwriter & composer
Mindi Dickstein, lyricist
Kay Swift, composer
Lisa Lambert, composer & lyricist
Marsha Norman, lyricist
Mary Rodgers, composer
Jill Santoriello, composer & lyricist
Lucy Simon, composer
Jeanine Tesori, composer
