Museum Concerts Presents a French Renaissance Christmas with Schola Cantorum
Company: Schola Cantorum
The acclaimed vocal ensemble Schola Cantorum will perform pieces by Marc Antoine Charpentier — the premier 17th century French composer of sacred music — accompanied by period stringed instruments. The program also includes a cappella Christmas motets by 16th century composers Josquin des Prez and Jean Mouton.
Directed by Frederick Jodry, Schola Cantorum has been heralded “as inarguably a standout of Renaissance expression” by David Patterson of The Boston Musical Intelligencer and for its “plaintive beauty and radiant sound ” by Anthony Tommasini of The Boston Globe. In addition to founding Schola Cantorum almost 40 years ago, Jodry is Director of Choral Activities at Brown University and President of Museum Concerts.
The concert will be held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 50 Orchard Street, Providence at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 15th.
