Museum Concerts Presents Sylvia Berry Paying Tribute to one of its Founders
Museum Concerts
Sylvia Berry is one of America’s premier early keyboard artists, performing widely on fortepiano and harpsichord. On Sunday, March 9th, she will pay tribute to a Museum Concerts’ founder—the musician, teacher, and fortepiano-builder Mary Sadovnikoff. Pieces by Mozart, Haydn, and Marianna Martines, as well as Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, will be performed.
Mary Sadovnikoff (1926‒2023) was a concert pianist, an accomplished composer, and a leader in the performance of early music on period instruments. She worked tirelessly to promote music and the arts in Rhode Island, co-founding Museum Concerts of Rhode Island in 1966. She went on to build her own fortepiano, performing extensively with it. Mary helped launch The Music School, now part of the Rhode Island Philharmonic.
Sylvia Berry has performed extensively at home and abroad as a soloist and chamber musician. She is known not only for her exciting performances, but for her engaging commentary about the music and the instruments she plays. "Her splendid playing took her up and down the keyboard in lightning-fast scales and passagework, and her thrilling full-voiced chords allowed the fortepiano to assert itself as a real solo instrument." — Daniel Hathaway, ClevelandClassical.com
Museum Concerts is committed to presenting the highest quality Early Music performances at an affordable cost. In addition to the series' already low ticket prices, there are discounted tickets for students and low income attendees. For more information, please visit MuseumConcerts.org.
